Mai Tategami
Violin
Started studying the violin at the age of six. Studied under Koichiro Harada, Chihiro Kudo, Aaron Rosand, Gérard Poulet, and Takashi Shimizu.
Selected as 2015’s promising violinist by Ongaku no Tomo magazine. Won the first edition of the Orford Music Prize as well as all supplementary prizes in Canada the following year.
Has an extensive awards record that includes a successful ABC Newcomer Audition, the Matsukata Hall Music Award Encouragement Award, and the International Johannes Brahms Competition Special Prize.
Received the Doseikai Award upon graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts. Graduated with top honors from the School of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin and the Graduate School of the Berlin University of the Arts. Studied under Axel Gerhardt and Michael Frischenschlager. Has also played alongside renowned performers repeatedly as a guest of the Embassy of Japan in Germany and at music festivals in North American and Europe.
Has been active performing in the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Beethoven Orchester Bonn since she was a student. Served as a Second Concertmaster on contract in the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Served as the inaugural concertmistress of the Super Kids Orchestra led by conductor Yutaka Sado. Also developed her skill under Seiji Ozawa since she was a first-year high school student.
Participated in the Saito Kinen Chamber Music Study Group for Young People and the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy as their youngest member. Also participated in the Saito Kinen Orchestra since 2016.
Was a trainee under the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists and a scholarship student of the Yamaha Music Foundation and Rohm Music Foundation.
Serves as a guest concertmaster and principal player in major orchestras in Japan. Also performs on NHK-FM’s “Recital Passio.”
Has served as Assistant Concertmaster in the New Japan Philharmonic since 2022.
